Summary:

Throughout my career as a teacher, I have supported numerous students with various strategies to help them reach the goals they had set for themselves. I have worked primarily in communities with a high percentage of Aboriginal people. Many students are struggling with mental health issues and mental health illnesses that affect all areas of their lives including academics. I am very interested in learning more about mental health in a high school setting. This project is designed to focus on mental health through a locally developed mental health course in a northern high school. This research project will examine the impact on student mental health and school culture.

The questions that are driving this research are as follows. What is the impact of delivering a locally developed mental health course in a northern high school setting? What is the impact of incorporating an Indigenous perspective in that locally developed mental health course? What is the impact(s) on the students and on the school culture?
