Summary:

Research objectives: 1) To identify the wellness strengths and needs of women school principals working in Francophone schools in Saskatchewan; 2) To use an Appreciative Inquiry model to develop wellness practices to foster more sustainable school leadership; 3) To share insights with other women principals in Saskatchewan and more widely; and 4) To share insights with other principals in Francophone contexts across Canada and internationally.

Overview of the proposed study: The proposed research action project focusses on the well-becoming (Falkenberg, 2016) of women school principals working in Francophone schools in Saskatchewan. The study will begin by collectively identifying wellness strengths and needs of the women principals using an Appreciative Inquiry approach. Once the strengths and needs have been identified, a preliminary plan of action will be developed.

Aside from facilitating enhanced wellness and leadership practices, the intended outcomes of the study are: 1) a document synthesizing the process and learning outcomes of the research; 2) a professional development session on leadership and wellness; and 3) short story vignettes to illustrate individual wellness journeys. Documents will be made available in digital format, gratefully acknowledging the support of the McDowell Foundation.
